Hi everyone! This entry is kinda special because I have discovered my love for Maleficent thanks to the newly released “Maleficent” movie by Disney starring Angelina Jolie as the protagonist.
The 2014 movie is actually told from Maleficent’s point of view and how she came to curse Princess Aurora with the famous curse such that she becomes Sleeping Beauty.
To really up the hype for the movie, I actually saw this nail art tutorial on Youtube and recreated this look the day before watching the movie. Actually I was just bored and thought the tutorial was easy enough to recreate la #sadsociallife
Please check out her channel, I really love her nail designs! :)
And yes, I did manage to recreate most of the look save for the nails on my right hand because drawing the horns with my main hand was so tough I had to redo it twice :x #noskill #newbie
I didn’t really make the horns as nice as Janelle in the Youtube tutorial but for a noob like me, it’s quite a huge feat already la lol.
So without further ado, my Maleficent nails drawn by yours truly :D
Angelina Jolie was on the cover of 8 Days that week. I subscribe to the magazine via their app because buying the physical copy is so wasteful. I throw them away into the recycling bin after reading actually.
Left hand with the My Dark Magic Mineralize Eye Shadow from the MAC Venomous Villains Collection in 2012 starring of course the cartoon version of Maleficent.
Right hand was much more simpler (polka dots for the middle finger!) pictured here with Revenge is Sweet Lipglass from the same MAC collection as the eyeshadow above.
Now onto the main objective of this entry – reviews and swatches of the items I bought from the MAC x Maleficent collection in conjunction with the release of the movie above.
The vinyl figurines you see here are from Funko Pop which Hidaya got me addicted to lol. The movie edition of Aurora and Maleficent are new releases and I told her to just grab it for me once they were in stock. Thank you Mas Hila :D :D :D (jangan membunuh saya ya! hoho.) You can purchase them at Simply Toys at Plaza Singapura level 7 opposite the cinema box office :)
Here’s what I bought from the collection:
1. Natural Beauty Powder, USD$33.00
2. Anthurium Pro Longwear Lipglass, USD$22.00
3. Nail Lacquer in Flaming Rose, USD$17.50/SGD$24.00
I purchased the nail lacquer in the MAC Cosmetic stores locally because obviously nail lacquers cannot be shipped internationally but the other 2 items were part of my huge MAC haul with the Sharon & Kelly Osbourne Collections which if I have time I will do reviews on. They have not landed on our sunny shores yet. I hope they don’t because I am tempted to get the eyeshadow quad from the Sharon collection but I am on a self-imposed makeup ban till September lol. Which kinda got broken last weekend because I caved into the YSL Fall 2014 collection FML
Ok, enough chit chat really! Swatches :)
The nail lacquer in Flaming Rose is a true red polish and the bottle is adorned with the Maleficent wings that is on all the items released in this collection. I only purchased this colour because the other colours released looked….. plain oops! Black and beige, really MAC? I just got this for collection purposes. The packaging is really to die for! >_<
Here I applied 2 coats of the polish with a top coat. I find that if you really wanna be really careful about it, you can achieve an opaque colour with one coat but I like to pile on the polish to even out things a little. Under indoor lighting, the colour shifts to a dark red (not as bright as it seems pictured in the first nail swatch pic).Wear time was typical of most nail polishes – it lasted about 4 days before the major chipping appeared. A huge chunk just fell off this morning as I’m typing this entry lol.
Next up, the Pro Longwear Lipglass in Anthurium. Oh, be still my heart!
This is a true red that applies opaque and evenly on the lips. However, as with all lip products, you really need to exfoliate well because this really picks up on the uneven surface of your lips if not applied on clean lips.
Formula wise, it is not sticky upon application but it does fade off after I drank my cuppa this morning! So boo for that *reapply diligently*.
I don’t have much experience with prolong wear lipglasses nor normal lipglasses from MAC but this applicator is slightly flat on both sides and I find that this allows me to apply the product more evenly onto my lips.
And last but not least, the Natural Beauty Powder.
I had initially wanted to pass on this because this just looks like a normal powder to me. But look at that casing!!! LOL, yup that’s right, suckered in by the packaging *waves white flag to MAC*.
The powder is really a peachy, skin toned colour powder. I was unable to get a good swatch of it on my arm because the powder just blended in so you get my drift here right? Anyway, I used it all over my face as a finishing powder (you can it for anything – blush, highlighter, bronzer ya dah ya dah) and it didn’t really have good oil control. I was shiny in about….2 hours? And I would only recommend this for fairer skin tones to use.
Well, that’s all folks for the Maleficent products from MAC. I’m really excited for the Simpsons collaboration for Fall. Autumnal collections are popping up left and right now (in August wtf!!!) so…. pray hope I don’t spend as much I did for the Summer collections D:
Till then, adios folks!
So I was at TANGS on CNY Eve with Jacelyn because I had to get a NARS Satin Lip Pencil for my cousin in Indonesia and she wanted to get some stuff there too (Curse you TANGS membership card! LOL).
And we dropped by the YSL counter because I was tempted to get the new Gloss Volupte 01 but it was out of stock as well as GLoss Volupte 49 :(
But I remembered the nail polish from the Spring collection was mad pretty so I asked the BA for it and it was in stock! *\o/*
She applied one coat for me on my nails to try and I immediately said “Please give me a new one!”
The polish was so opaque after one coater and so CNY appropriate hahaha!
Went home and immediately applied it to ‘huat’ for the new year :)
Pictured here is one coat of the polish without top coat.
Application was very smooth, the brush of the polish was some what similar to Dior’s (wide and sturdy brush ftw) which is my favourite type of nail polish brush.
I decided against putting a second coat on it and just went to dig out a gold glitter in clear base polish to add some gold colour for even better luck while I’m playing ‘ban luck’ over the first couple of days of CNY hehe.
Applied them on the tips of my nails and finished off with my Seche Vite top coat for a glossy finish.
Don’t you just think it’s a very gorgeous colour? :)
It’s already a week since I did my nails with this colour and it hasn’t faced any major chipping, just the usual wear and tear around the sides of my nails.
Add points for long lasting nail polish! Good job YSL!
I also picked up the YSL limited edition eye palette for Spring 2014 because I couldn’t resist – too pretty already! Will do a review once I manage to find an occasion to play with it.
YSL Beaute counters are located at TANGS Orchard and their flagship boutique is located at ION Orchard.
They are really fast becoming one of my favourite high end beauty brands (first love still Chanel but can fight la lol).
Went for the TANGS 12% rebate sale a few days back and came home with 4 new lip products from YSL.
When I popped by the Dior counter on my birthday at Takashimaya, I fell in love with the new Dior Summer Mix 2013 nail polishes! /inserts emoticon of face with hearts as eyes/
As I progress on with my addiction to all beauty related things, I’ve found myself gearing toward the higher ended brands such as Chanel and Dior etc in terms of makeup items and nail lacquers.
You have no idea how happy I was to find them at DFS when I left for Taiwan!
The bf had to literally drag me out of DFS to catch our plane else I’d probably buy up the entire store lol.
So I did purchase 2 nail polishes from the Dior Summer 2013 collection and here’s one of them.
Dior Vernis #658 Capeline is a really summery colour – pink & coral all mixed together!
It reminds me of watermelon actually which every review I’ve read said it as well lol.
See, very summery ain’t it? I mean what’s summer without watermelon?!
2 coats of Capeline and no top coat
The formula is very very very good! Flows like…… butter ROFL.
I love the nail brush that comes with Dior polishes – wide and very easy to cover my nails.
Actually I think I can cover the entire nail in 1 stroke… ok maybe I should try that the next time!
I owned only 1 Dior polish prior to buying the 2 new polishes and I really loved the brush from that one so I was quite confident I’d love the 2 new Dior nail polishes as well.
The brush is so large that no matter how shaky your hands are, they will cover your nail quite beautifully.
Now the Chanel brush… gahhh don’t really like it.
Maybe I’ll do a comparison post in future of the brushes used :P
So back to the polish, in a sentence, I really love the formula of this and the colour! NOW RUN OUT AND BUY IT!
I’m just kidding actually. I think whichever colour you pick up from this collection, you’ll love it because it just brightens up your day by looking at the pretty colour.
And it lasts quite awhile before having the usual wear and tear around the end of my nails due to me doing extensive housework. (In my opinion, Dior polishes last wayyyyyy longer than Chanel’s but Chanel has a wider and more unique range of colours so FML I still buy them)
Now I didn’t put a top coat above because…. I wanted to top it with my YSL La Lacque Couture Tie & Dye Pop Coat #2!
I have the whole damn collection, yes, all 4 FML which bff told me not to buy but I couldn’t resist! It’s $45/bottle /laughs bitterly at bank acc/
I did use the blue one when I went to Korea but never did take pics of it cos I did it hastily and it was quite ugly.
Now this… I really love!
How the bottle looks when shaken and over my Capeline polish
It’s so gorgeous! Ok, please pardon me for my lack of vocabulary.
Every damn thing is damn pretty to me for the lack of works lol!
When you shake the bottle up, they combine to form this shiny polish with small specks of glitter in them.
It’s like giving the Capeline polish a glittery coat. So.freaking.beautiful.
Final outcome with top coat! :)
I also bought a blush from the Dior Summer Mix 2013 Collection too – the blushes are meant to ‘accompany’ the polishes i.e. they released 4 different cream blushes as well to compliment the nail polishes.
Thankfully I didn’t fall victim to all the blushes but I did for 1 blush.
And I wanted to buy all 4 nail colours but the bf stopped me :( Sigh.
Oh well, that’s all for now folks! Stay tuned for the other Dior polish I picked up from this collection hahaha!
I'm just your average girl from
